Essential Oils: Part Two

In my last blog post, we talked about coconut oil. Now I want to give you a favorite recipe of mine - Relax & Unwind - and show you how to blend it, so you can make your own personal combination.

When I am at work, I have the perfect equipment to handle this job. At home, you will need a bowl and a sturdy wooden spoon. Put the first two ingredients into the bowl and mix together then add your ESOs (Essential Oils). You can make this more or less fragrant by increasing or decreasing the amounts of the oils.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • 20 drops lavender ESO
  • 5 drops ylang ylang ESO
  • 5 drops sandalwood ESO

This formulation is excellent as a scrub in the shower or in the bath. I particularly like using it at the end of my bath - the warm water warms your skin so when the coconut oil is applied it melts and the oil vapors are magnified. Lavender is healing soothing and calming. Ylang ylang has a sweet sensual scent that makes your body smile. Sandalwood roots you into the moment.

I think the combination is the perfect end of the day. Apply to your skin in a massaging fashion, starting from the feet and working up to the torso. Then begin at your hands and work down your arms toward your torso into your heart chakra. Finally, from your chin, work down throughout the shoulders and again into the heart area.

Once you have completely covered your body and massaged all areas, use a gentle warm rinse of water and towel dry. Your skin will feel like satin and the aroma of the mingled oils will carry you off to a perfect slumber.
